The Wasatch is Best for Outdoors

The title of my photomontage is called, “The Wasatch is the Best for Outdoors”. While reading the instructions for this assignment I knew exactly what I wanted my theme to be for my photomontage. I am a huge skier, golfer, and fisherman. I love outdoor sports and I wanted to portray why the Wasatch front is the best for outdoor enthusiasts’. There are two times in the seasons here in Salt Lake City when a person can ski, golf, and fish all in one day. Now I have never been able to do all three in the same day, but I do all three of these in a weekend. During the spring and fall are the times of the year that this can happen. During late April through May I go up skiing in the morning and golf in the afternoon, then wake up the next morning and go fishing and either ski or golf in the afternoon. I wanted to “pay my respects to the Wasatch Front” by creating this photomontage.
The steps involved with creating the piece of art were time consuming, but simple for me. The only reason this task was simple for me was because I knew exactly what I wanted my artwork to represent and I am a graphic designer for a living so creating this was fast once I had all my photos. Finding the correct and proper photos was the hard part of this project. All photos were found on Google Images. When searching for the photos I made sure all the photos were taken in the Wasatch area. The background photo was taken at Alta looking over the ridge of Mineral Basin at Snowbird with superior peak in the background. The golf course is from Old Mill Golf Course in Cottonwood Heights just adjacent to the mouth of Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. The golfer is a picture I took at a golf tournament of one of my fathers friends. When attempting to find the prefect fishing picture I was going for a picture of a fly fisherman on the Provo River, but getting the proper picture with the proper angles was too tough. So I found a picture I took a long time ago fishing with my father. The picture is of a man in his small aluminum boat in the West Bay in Strawberry Reservoir. I wanted to make a picture illustrating that there can be snow in the mountains in the Wasatch with golf courses open in the valleys with rivers and lake unfrozen. So to top my photomontage off I attempted to take a photo I had of me skiing. I did not have the correct photo of myself that would look visually appealing with this particular piece. So I found a picture of a skier I know named, Hayden Price. He is landing switch (backwards) on skis. I thought that the skiers picture would best represent how awesome the Wasatch backcountry skiing was in the winter. To finalize this assignment there are five pictures used in this photomontage. The background, the golf course, the golfer, the lake, and the skier. Hope you enjoyed.
